N.B : AUTOMATION SYSTEMS :

As the years roll by we are finding it impossible to tech support AUTOMATION systems on some of the Soundtracs products. The old CMS3 systems for CP6800 , Tracmix for Jade , external PC control for the Solitaire and Solo Logic etc . If youve got these systems working then consider it a bonus , I cant offer any SOFTWARE based support on product I sell any more : But analogue ...NO PROBLEM , lets face it thats what its all about : FLYING THE ANALOGUE FLAG

 

Who are heck are Studiosystems anyway ?

Well first let me say we have moved our operation to a deep Cornish TIN mine somewhere in S West England. So either these old metal desks are going to be returned to Mother earth or you guys are going to squeeze some more life from them !!!

New head office : ( not really ,we are the original Fred- in -the - shed company: a pretty big one these days !)

So instead of listening to the M25 hamster wheel going around I thought Id listen to the seagulls above and creepy crawlies down here in the mine (also had a "spot of bother" with a Soundtracs Jade power supply: see pic below!)

Buncefield psu incident , whoops ! ( no wonder the price of oil is 102 dollars /barrel !!)

But let me introduce the miners:

Well theres ... Harry , our chief test engineer and sub- woofer, has a frequency response up to 20KHz !

A day in the life of STUDIO SYSTEMS:

Now that we have moved to Cornwall we can take advantage of the lower business rentals, so weve got a great little unit in Liskeard biz' park . Also weve set up some great deals with courier companies , I can now pallet up something like a QUARTZ 32 and get it to Italy for 250 UKP ! In fact we just got Quartz in from Belgium in January heres some pics of stuff going on down here :

..NOW about the sales ...................................Nearly every one of my potential customers asks me "how old is the console?"

( meaning is it going to give me tech' grief) and when I say its 10> 20 years old (Soundtracs stopped building analogue consoles in 1996) theres usually a pause on the end of the phone line and I jump in and say "but dont worry all my stuff is guaranteed for six months on major faults! ...blah blah blah ...but what Id like them to "hear" in that sentence is the following :

I have been servicing and repairing Soundtracs (amongst others) consoles since the first 16/8/16 rolled off the Surbiton assembly line in 1981

I am interested in buying a new console this year. The console I decided to get is Soundtracs Topaz Project 8. When comparing to others ( Mackie, Behringer ) is should fit me the best. Can I get it from your company ? Do you have any Project 8s ? What is the price nowadays ? Does Soundtracs still produce this console or I can get only used one ?

I live in Slovakia and I could come to UK to pick it up, if it is possible ( it depends how much will cost me the shipping from UK to Slovakia ). Thanks for your answer.

Thank you for your enquirey .
Yes the TOPAZ PROJECT is a great console , however I don’t have one at the moment but I will put you on the waiting list
They measure 1m x 1 m at 55 KGS so we can pack and ship it for around 150 GBP to Slovakia but I would have to check with my courier company . I usually sell these for around 750 GBP
Soundtracs stopped making the Topaz Project in 1993 but you can be safe with a used console from me : all my product is fully serviced and has a lifetime of email tech support , if you ever get a problem (unlikey) we can always sort it out via email and the help of your local technician

So moving on to what we actually do down here :

. Quartz 48 in the "spray shop "

You'd think I'd seen just about every console fault /problem /issue or whatever you want to call it occur in the last 23 years , but I havn't, and thats what keeps it interesting , there are still new and interesting gremlins that creep out of the modules or are just lurking quietly ready to pounce !!! Megas battery replacement (tricky stuff)

My point is that I don't only test refurbish and repair all the consoles that come through Studio Systems, I also look for trouble , potential trouble and trouble that has been and may not have been sorted out properly . And I do this because I dont want any more trouble for my customer. I always double check just for peace of mind, I might do a mod' or enhancement to prevent a "classic" fault from occuring: the M25 is already full of white service vans !!! And flying atround Europe just isnt an option .

Power supplies for instance, ALL manufactures seem to underate thier power supplies, or folks just let them get too hot :and time and time I find myself replacing bridge rectifiers , regulators and the like , this isnt just a Soundtracs problem , ALL mixing consoles develop psu faults over the years , it what keeps the Techs' in beans, Anyway I always check for signs of potential psu problems, and replace parts - just in case

Spares : as you can imagine after 25 years , I have shed loads of Soundtracs bits and bobs ,so I can often A/B stuff which sometimes is the quickest way to fix things .. or I can supply replacement modules/cards cables and the like.
